Mission:

The Division of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance at the Marine Science Center leads the process of establishing standards to ensure quality and continuous development in educational and research programs that meet the needs of the community and the job market locally, regionally, and internationally.

Objectives:

  1. Disseminate a culture of quality to achieve the vision, mission, and objectives of the center.
  2. Enhance the self-assessment capacities of the center’s departments to conduct self-evaluation according to the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation standards.
  3. Improve community satisfaction with the outputs of work systems, research, and professional and community services that align with national, regional, and international standards.
  4. Enhance capacity building for all categories at the center in the field of quality assurance systems.
  5. Identify obstacles hindering performance improvement at all levels, conduct analytical studies, propose solutions, and develop appropriate plans for improvement in various areas.
  6. Work on providing infrastructure for centers of intellectual and creative innovation.
  7. Strive to achieve a role model in quality assurance and academic performance at the center.
  8. Seek twinning agreements with reputable universities.
  9. Initiate an audit of completed and remaining tasks and identify obstacles that impede the implementation of key areas for accreditation according to Iraqi Accreditation Guide standards as well as Arab Universities Accreditation standards.

Tasks of the Division of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance and the four administrative units:

The division works on implementing the educational quality assurance system in all educational, research, and other activities of the college to ensure the provision of high-quality academic programs and achieve excellence in this field. This division includes the Laboratory Accreditation Unit. The division carries out the following tasks:

Quality Assurance Unit:

  1. Disseminate a culture of quality assurance and academic accreditation in the college and its affiliated institutions.
  2. Coordinate with the university and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding developments in quality assurance and academic accreditation.
  3. Implement and monitor institutional and programmatic accreditation in the college and its entities.
  4. Prepare periodic reports on the implementation of institutional and programmatic accreditation.
  5. Prepare periodic reports on improvement and continuous improvement.
  6. Monitor developments in quality assurance and academic accreditation.
  7. Collaborate with organizations and companies interested in international academic program training, development, and accreditation.
  8. Engage with local, Arab, and international institutions in quality assurance and academic accreditation.
  9. Ensure participation in various internal and external activities organized by the college.
  10. Document institutional and programmatic accreditation standards for the college and its entities.

Performance Evaluation Unit:

  1. Evaluate performance in college departments and take necessary actions to assess the performance level and quality.
  2. Establish a database for all college activities and units, monitoring the educational process development.
  3. Provide assistance, advice, and guidance to all quality assurance and performance evaluation units within the college and its departments in the area of performance enhancement programs.
  4. Evaluate electronic performance of all college units and submit necessary reports.
  5. Monitor field evaluation results with the needs of the job market and submit necessary recommendations to the college dean.
  6. Prepare final reports on the annual performance of college members and its entities.
  7. Prepare periodic reports on the unit’s activities and annual achievement rates and submit them to the Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance.
  8. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Division of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance to support the process of academic performance evaluation.

Training and Technical Support Unit:

  1. Promote the culture of quality and performance evaluation in the college and its departments.
  2. Conduct training courses and workshops for employees in the field of performance evaluation and quality assurance to achieve institutional and programmatic accreditation.
  3. Participate in seminars, regular meetings, and stay updated on international conferences regarding quality assurance and academic performance.
  4. Provide support to quality assurance and academic performance units in the college to implement their specialized systems and programs.
  5. Coordinate between quality assurance, academic performance units, and the IT department in the college to publish activities, contributions, and research on the university’s official website.
  6. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Division of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance in the college.

Laboratory Accreditation Unit:

  1. Monitor and audit laboratory specifications with approved standard specifications.
  2. Define technical specifications for devices and equipment, code and document their data coordinated by laboratory responsible with other college laboratories and other universities.
  3. Monitor the implementation of calibration programs for devices and equipment with relevant authorities.
  4. Coordinate to open scheduled courses to train laboratory workers according to international standards and national specifications.
  5. Coordinate with the laboratory accreditation department in the university and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Supervisory and Scientific Evaluation Agency to develop and improve laboratory performance for accreditation by a relevant authority.
  6. Activate on-site procedures and requirements specified by the laboratory accreditation team.
  7. Coordinate with local and international entities to conduct specialized courses to train unit members on laboratory accreditation quality auditors and inspectors.
  8. Conduct effective internal audits for laboratories and independently assess the efficiency of examinations periodically and submit necessary reports to college officials.
