About the Department of English

Establishment of the English Language Department
The English Language Department was established at the College of Education in the academic year 1997-1998 as one of the most important scientific departments at the University of Wasit. The department offers many courses in fundamental areas such as literature, linguistics, language teaching methods, and translation.
Vision
To produce a group of graduates capable of distinguishing themselves through their performance and competitiveness with other graduates from various institutions inside and outside Iraq, specifically in the fields of language sciences and literature, in line with the advancements in language studies and education.
A distinguished and pioneering department in education and scientific research in the fields of literature and translation locally and regionally, establishing interaction with English-speaking world cultures and graduating proactive students in serving their communities.
Mission
To provide high-quality education that enhances and develops students’ linguistic, research, and educational skills, fosters their ideas, and prepares them well to undertake responsibilities in their careers and pursue further studies in the same field or different fields, empowering them to interact constructively with other global cultures.
Objectives
:The program aims to enable and encourage students to
- Communicate effectively in English and develop students’ linguistic and communication skills.
- Translate texts of various types from English to Arabic and vice versa.
- Teach English to students at different stages of schooling: elementary, secondary, and vocational.
- Read literary and critical works in English.
- Write logically structured, organized, and advanced texts following English writing methods and standards.
- Analyze and interpret their own or others’ texts, understand the context of these texts, and comprehend how the text aligns with the context.
