Summary about College
Translation:
Founded at the beginning of the academic year 1996/1997, the College of Education, affiliated with Al-Qadisiyah University, began its academic journey by opening three scientific departments: the Department of Arabic Language, Department of History, and Department of Geography, with 23 teaching staff, 35 administrative staff, and 457 students. In the academic year 1997/1998, two more departments were opened: the Department of English Language and the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. Evening classes were also introduced. In the academic year 1999/2000, a new department was opened, which was later transformed into the College of Science. The college continued expanding, and in the academic year 2002/2003, the Master’s program in History was opened after all necessary resources were available. The college continued to evolve and expand in all directions. In the academic year 2006/2007, the Department of Physical Education was opened, eventually becoming an independent college. In the academic year 2009/2010, the Department of Quranic Sciences was established, and in the academic year 2012/2013, the Departments of Mathematics and Life Sciences were created, thus forming the College of Education.
Today, the college consists of nine scientific departments: Department of Arabic Language, Department of Geography, Department of History, Department of English Language, Department of Quranic Sciences, Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. In the academic year 2013/2014, two more departments were opened in Al-Aziziya district, affiliated with the college: the Department of Arabic Language and the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. In the academic year 2014/2015, the Department of Computer Science was established.
In the academic year 2002/2003, the Master’s program in History was introduced, and the Doctoral program was established in the academic year 2008/2009. Today, Master’s programs are available in four scientific departments: Arabic Language, Geography, History, and Educational and Psychological Sciences. Doctoral studies are offered in the History and Geography departments. The college aims to prepare specialists in fields of science, knowledge, and technologies, providing them with the necessary resources to continue research and keep pace with the enormous developments in scientific research and technology. It also aims to promote a culture of creativity in basic sciences, engage with societal requirements, and meet its needs. Through its departments, the college develops scientific research plans, encourages strategic projects, and establishes collaborative relationships with scientific institutions nationally and internationally by participating in local and international conferences and seminars to exchange experiences, research results, and expertise. The college also organizes training courses, seminars, scientific lectures, and discussions.
To fulfill the college’s role in serving the community, a Quranic recitation and memorization center was established. Since 2007, the College of Science has been publishing “The Journal of Education College,” a peer-reviewed scientific journal aimed at publishing researchers’ works in Arabic and English within the specialties of the existing scientific departments. The college has also created a website (educ.uowasit.edu.iq) to provide faculty and students with the latest news, future scientific activities, information about the college, its units, departments, and courses, curriculum details, names of faculty members and their research published abroad, and names of alumni.
